Priemier league killing Nigerian football 2

Last week, a colleague did a write up on the above subject. He pointed out how the English league is selling huge and passionately being followed here in Nigeria at the expense of or more than the Nigerian league. According to him, ‘supporters do not seem to care that the sides they support are not Nigerian’. His write up spawned an interest in me concerning the topic. Why would our kids have the Messi’s and the Ronaldo’s as their heroes when they can hardly mention a single players name in the Nigerian league let alone having a hero here? I decided to do a follow up on his story, go out and talk with Nigerians as to why they are diehard supporters of foreign clubs leaving the Nigerian clubs in total abandon. Below are what some of them had to say:

My favourite club is Chelsea, I like Chelsea because they are a compatable team and they do not let me down………I do not have a Nigerian club that I support……they do not have good stadiums, there are no big names that play in the league and everything about the league is poorly done…..i think if the government can put all this in place, maybe one day I will support a Nigerian club.-----------------Mr Olufemi Shile.
